Lunch Day 2007

The 2007 Annual Golden Stave charity lunch “The Golden Stave goes Hollywood” held on Friday 29th June at the Hordern Pavilion this year raised a phenomenal $800,000 plus for various children’s charities throughout Australia. The Music and Entertainment Industries once again came together to jointly host the Golden Stave Foundation luncheon, the largest annual charity luncheon in Australia and an event of which the Music and Entertainment Industries are justifiably proud. Every year the annual Golden Stave Lunch has grown in scale, scope and notoriety to the point where it has become an integral part of the Music and Entertainment Industry's calendar. The entertainment over the years has been extraordinary and this year's lunch was no exception! With the room decked out in a mood setting Hollywood theme, David Campbell, opened the lunch with his swing band to a 1000 plus capacity crowd getting everyone hyped up for what would be an amazing afternoon. "It was such a buzz to be performing in front of some of the most iconic members of the entertainment industry and I felt very honoured to be able to perform at this year's lunch. People from all spectres of the Music and Entertainment industries attend this extraordinary lunch and seeing them all in one room raising money for so many children’s charities was amazing. I feel very privileged to be a part of this industry.” Industry icon Michael Chugg who has generously given so much of his time to this worthwhile cause over the years, hosted the lunch alongside celebrities Robert ‘Dipper’ DiPierdomenico, Mikey Robbins, Tony Squires, Angela Bishop, Bianca Dye and Nick Bennett who continuously revved up the crowd throughout the afternoon to bid for money can’t buy auction items ranging from a framed hand painted pair of AC/DC jeans painted by Australian artist Nicholas Huxley and personally autographed by both Malcolm and Angus Young through to a personally autographed John Mayer Fender Squire Stratocaster guitar. The afternoon continued with outstanding performances including an emotional performance by George's Katie Noonan’s rendition of Somewhere Over the Rainbow, paying tribute to Australian rock icon, Billy Thorpe. "I had to hold back the tears as the room fell silent when Billy appeared on the big screen. The emotion in the room was extraordinary and I’m sure Billy was there with all of us as we raised our glasses in memory of this Australian rock icon. I felt very honoured to be a part of this amazing lunch and thank the Golden Stave for inviting me to be a part of their amazing fundraising achievement.” Unfortunately all events come to a close and who better than to bring the curtain down than Rock Legend Iva Davies who performed at the lunch for the first time with Icehouse. As Icehouse took to the stage, the crowd stood anticipating the music that would get the house rocking and rocking it did with everyone dancing wherever they could, an amazing closure to a fantastic event. Iva Davies was blown away by the reception the band received. "It was an amazing experience to be on stage performing in front of old friends and to receive the reception we did was mind blowing. The Golden Stave lunches are renowned as being the industry’s party event of the year and being my first one, I have to say I feel very privileged to have been part of this extraordinary fundraising event.” The Golden Stave Luncheon has come a long way since the instigation of Peter Hebbes AM, Chris Gilbey, Ross Barlow and the late Jack Argent who first sat down to lunch at Sydney's Sebel Townhouse in 1978 to discuss the idea of a regular Music Industry charity luncheon and next year celebrate 30 years! The Golden Stave Foundation would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone involved, in particular our long term supporters and sponsors who every year are more than happy to provide us with the vast array of auction items we so gratefully appreciate to help us achive our annual fundraising goals. Also we would like to thank those organisations who have gratefully donated for the first time and look forward to them becoming a long term member of the Stave family, it all makes up the mix of making this event the most anticipated fundraiser lunch on the year’s calendar and look forward to seeing everyone again next year to celebrate our 30th Anniversary and raise the benchmark in fundraising for the kids!
