The 2004 Annual Golden Stave Charity Luncheon - Amount Raised: $920,000 - - Featuring: Molly Meldrum, Dicko, Jabba, James Mathison Entertainment: The Atlantics, GANGgajang, Mental As Anything, Hoodoo Gurus. A record crowd - 1070 strong - turned up, cheque books in hand, for the annual Golden Stave Charity luncheon at the Hordern Pavilion in Sydney. Attracting the usual suspects from across the music and entertainmnet business, and a growing number of corporate attendees, guests dug deep to take this year's money raised to over $920,000. Ian 'Molly' Meldrum kicked off the event, escorted into the gig by the Bondi Lifesaving Club atop one of their traditional surf boards (pictured), before MC Michael Chugg, who did a mighty job in the Auction, got the event into gear. Some highlights in the auction included the sale of Courtney Act's bra and knickers which went for $2000.00 bought by long time supporter Clive Thomas of CT Freight; Delta Goodrem's autographed poster plus the dress she wore on her #1 single, 'Not Me, Not I' which was bought by Tony McGinn of MCM entertainment for $7000; Lunch with Dicko was bought by Kylie Martin at Festival for $2000 (including five hours from Dicko's personal trainer) and Paul Robinson at EMI paid $5500 for the now-famous Seriously Ten Yacht, thanks to Eric Robinson (Jands), Shaun James (Warner Music) and John Woodruff (The Music Network/Roughcut Music) $135,000 was raised at the Sydney Morning Herald Handicap with the winning horse, skywards, ridden by Tim Harrowell out of the Emirates stable being bought by Graham Goldberg. Graham received the fabulous amount of just over $43,000. Long standing Stave supporter, Fifa Riccobono of Alberts, took second prize with 'My Generation' out of the Michael Chugg Entertainment stable ridden by Roger Daltrey, offering to redonate her winnings 'on the quiet' and then proceed to buy thousands of dollars worth of raffle tickets for her entire table on the day. Third place-getter was Gary Johnston of Jaycar Electronics with Andrew 'Super' Mercado riding Max. Maryanne Knight, General Manager of the Golden Stave Foundation Limited, told The Music Network, "I'd like to thank each and every one of those who attended this year, for supporting the day and making this one the biggest in its 26 year history".
